Amgen Laying Off Hundreds at HQ

US surge 'failure' says Iraq poll

Most Iraqis think the US troop surge of the past six months has been a failure, a nationwide opinion poll suggests. Most said the surge in and around Baghdad had made conditions much worse. More than 2,000 Iraqis were questioned in more than 450 neighborhoods across all 18 provinces last month, in a survey for the BBC, ABC News and NHK.

Security in Iraq still elusive

BAGHDAD — When President Bush announced in January what the White House called a “New Way Forward” in Iraq, he said that Iraqi and American troops would improve security while the Iraqi government improved services. Responsibility for security in most of Iraq would be turned over to Iraqi security forces by November.
